Packaging Design

Packaging design
that performs
in the real world.

I create strategic packaging and label design for consumer brands that need to stand out, communicate clearly, and move confidently from concept to production.

Projects can range from a single launch to complete packaging systems across multiple SKUs, product families, sizes, and formats.

More than a package

A brand people can recognize, understand, and choose.

Good packaging has several jobs at once. It needs to attract attention, communicate what the product is, create trust, fit the brand, work within production constraints, and remain consistent as the product line grows.

  • Packaging and label design
  • Boxes, cartons, bottles, pouches, jars, tubes, and other formats
  • Packaging systems for multiple SKUs
  • Product families and line extensions
  • Dielines and print ready artwork
  • 3D mockups and presentation visuals
  • Production support and manufacturer coordination within project scope
  • Materials, finishes, and print guidance

Packaging design for consumer brands

Packaging design for consumer brands.

The work is built around consumer products that need to communicate clearly across real buying environments. The objective is a packaging system that supports recognition, product hierarchy, production and future growth rather than treating each package as an isolated design.

Packaging Systems

When a brand has more than one product, packaging should work as a system rather than a collection of unrelated designs. I define the fixed elements that create recognition and the variable elements that help customers understand products, flavors, strengths, sizes, or categories quickly.

Multi SKU packaging.

For product families, I define the brand elements that remain fixed and the product elements that vary so new SKUs can be introduced without losing recognition or creating unnecessary inconsistency.

From Concept to Production

Packaging design does not end when the front panel looks good. The system has to work on a dieline, accommodate required information, reproduce correctly, and make sense to the manufacturer or printer receiving the files.

My experience includes the practical side of preparing packaging for real world production, which helps reduce surprises later in the process.

Materials, Color and Finishes

Substrates, inks, coatings, finishes, and production methods can change how a design performs. I consider these decisions as part of the visual system so the final package supports the intended brand perception and production reality.

Retail and Ecommerce

Packaging needs to work at full size on shelf and at thumbnail size online. The hierarchy, recognition, and product differentiation should remain clear across both environments.

Process

A clear path from idea to production.

  1. 01

    Discovery

Understand the product, audience, market, brand, competitors, formats, and production requirements.

  2. 02

    Strategy

Define positioning, hierarchy, packaging architecture, and visual direction.

  3. 03

    Design

Develop and refine the packaging concept across the required formats and SKUs.

  4. 04

    Technical Preparation

Apply the approved design to dielines, prepare production artwork, and organize specifications.

  5. 05

    Production Support

Support reasonable production questions and adjustments within the agreed scope.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

How much does packaging design cost?

Packaging projects are typically scoped as fixed price engagements based on the number of products, formats, SKUs, deliverables, technical requirements and timeline. I provide a clear scope and investment before work begins.

What do you need before packaging design starts?

The project begins with the product, audience, market, brand, competitors, package formats and production requirements. If a manufacturer has already supplied an approved dieline or specifications, those should be provided at the start.

Can you work with an existing dieline?

Yes. If your manufacturer has supplied an approved dieline, I can design within it. If the structural template is still being finalized, I can work with the information available and coordinate the artwork once the final dieline is approved.

Can you design multiple SKUs?

Yes. Multi SKU systems are a major part of my packaging work. The goal is to create clear consistency across the line while giving each product enough distinction.

Do you provide print ready files?

Yes. Final production files are prepared according to the approved dieline, printer or manufacturer specifications, and the deliverables defined in the project.

Do you work with printers and manufacturers?

I can coordinate on design and production questions related to the artwork. Final structural engineering, legal approval, regulatory compliance, and manufacturing decisions remain with the appropriate specialist, client, or supplier.
