Music School Brand Identity & Signage
Capital Music Academy has to feel warm enough for a nervous eight year old's first lesson and credible enough for the parent signing a tuition check every month. Finding that exact balance was the real brief.
01
Two people to convince at once
Two people choose a music school and they want opposite things. The child needs it to look like somewhere good happens, somewhere worth being nervous about in the right way. The adult needs it to look like a business that will still be open next year and is worth a recurring payment. Lean too far either way and you lose the other, so the lettering itself had to hold both.
The logotype is a retro leaning script, drawn rather than set, with a treble clef woven into the ampersand and a note flourish trailing off the end of the name. Those touches say music straight away without an instrument having to appear in the mark. What keeps the whole thing from reading as a children's brand is weight. The strokes are heavy and sure of themselves, closer to a sign painter than to a storybook.

02
Structure underneath the handwriting
Since the script carries all the warmth, everything around it is built to carry the credibility. The word Academy sits in a solid navy lozenge in gold caps, squared off and stable, anchoring the script above it the way a baseline would. Navy and gold then run the supporting system, and that pairing is what a parent recognizes as established before they have read a single line of copy.
Signage is where the balance actually gets tested, because the brand meets a family at the building before it meets them anywhere else. The name goes up illuminated at facade scale, repeats small on the entry glass, and turns up again on a banner and on an interior panel that marks the path from first lesson to first performance. Halo lighting flatters a script at night, and at that size none of the fine strokes drop out.
