Roll Works
Kitchen West Virginia Pepperoni Roll Restaurant Brand & Signage
Roll Works Kitchen sells West Virginia pepperoni rolls to plenty of people who have never heard of one. The identity treats that unfamiliarity as the brand's best asset instead of its problem.
01
Pride instead of an explanation
A food category most customers cannot name usually gets branded with reassurance, the fresh and delicious language that any restaurant could run and that therefore says nothing. Reassurance was never going to do the work here. Local pride would, because a customer who understands that this is a real thing people in one state grew up eating has a reason to try it that no adjective can supply.
So the state itself sits at the center of the badge, drawn in gold with a mountain ridge cut through the silhouette so the shape carries terrain as well as geography. I kept the badge a rounded oval ruled in black on cream, a format that borrows from roadside signs and old food packaging without pretending to be vintage. The name is set heavy, plain and stacked, the way a place confident about one dish would say it.

02
Clear before the car stops
Around the top of the badge the offering runs as a short arc of red capitals, and that line is doing real work rather than decorating the curve. A brand asking someone to try an unfamiliar food cannot also be coy about what it is, so the menu becomes part of the mark and travels everywhere the mark does.
The system holds because the state outline can leave the badge and still carry the brand. On a small exterior plaque I let the mark appear alone, at a size where the type would have collapsed, and it still reads from across a lot. Red stays an accent, saved for the practical lines a driver needs, which is the honest job a regional story has to finish. Pride gets someone interested. A legible sign gets them to turn in.
